The lodge is on the quieter side of New Norfolk, across the bridge. Our guests remark on the peaceful setting, the comfortable beds and the lovely breakfast.

Travelling from Hobart take the Brooker Highway and cross the bridge at Bridgewater; follow the B10 or Boyer road (about 15 mins) until you see the Welcome to New Norfolk sign. After that watch out for the first sealed road to your right which has a signpost Explorers Lodge on th left. Follow the sign , and the next sign first right , along Derwent Terrace right to the end where you will find Explorers Lodge.

Broadband/wireless Internet connection is available. A breakfast provision basket is provided. Also, attached to the self contained unit is a twin room with its own bathroom which can accommodate two extra adults or children and is available at a favourable rate.

Camp beds are provide at $20 each for children under 12. All extras payment on arrival.
In the Tasman self catering section extra adults $30 extra children $25 for bed, camp bed $15. All extras payable on arrival.

Car Parking:

The Lodge is on a cul de sac and there is also off-street parking. This is a secure and quiet part of town.

Things to do:

Accommodation New Norfolk Tasmania provides an ideal base from which to tour the southern regions of Tasmania. A three minute drive brings you to New Norfolk’s old inns and churches dating back to the 1820s. One can visit the local wineries, feed trout at the idyllic Salmon Ponds, or drive through the apple plantations, the beautiful hop fields, and pass the historical Oast houses on your way to the nearby spectacular Mt Field National Park. Attend a day class at the famous Agrarian Gourmet Kitchen at Lachlan. View the famous Russell Fall or hike one of the many thrilling hiking trails. We can help you plan your walks or hikes – from 15 mins to 8 hours; from easy to difficult. There are so many lovely hikes to the beautiful tarns (glacier lakes) and spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Drive a little further to the Styx Valley Gigantic Tree Reserve, trout filled Lake Peddar and the scenic Franklin/Gordon region or go boating on the Derwent River. Fly fishermen can accept the challenge of the fast flowing Tyenna, Plenty and Styx Rivers; or try for sea run trout in the Derwent River. The required fishing licence is obtainable online. Ride the River Derwent on the “Devil Boat” and visit “Something Wild Wildlife Sanctuary” and visit the numerous antique shops. Take a fast walk or a stroll along the Derwent River promenade and climb the cliff steps to view the river from on high. Take a drive up to Pulpit Rock Lookout and gaze down on New Norfolk and the expanse of the river. Hobart and all its attractions such as Salamanca, Mt Wellington, Battery Point, the yacht basin, and the commercial fishing wharves, are only 30 minutes away.

We are on the opposite side of the Derwent River from the town centre. We are: 30 minutes to Hobart’s waterfront, and the famous Salamanca market. 5 mins from pubs, restaurants, antique shops and all town facilities. 40 minutes to historical Richmond Village. 30 minutes to Russell Falls and the lovely, invigorating hikes of Mt Field National Park. 1 hour 30 minutes to Huon. 20 minutes to challenging trout streams and rivers 10 minutes to the Golf course. 10 minutes to wineries. 30 minutes to Something Wild wildlife sanctuary. 10 minutes to The Salmon Ponds. 10 minutes to the famous Agrarian gourmet Kitchen at Lachlan. 20 minutes to Moorilla Estate vineyard and Art Gallery (opening soon). 20 minutes to Cadbury Factory (booking essential) 1 hour 45 minutes to Lake Peddar.
