Come and enjoy the experience of a home away from home. Oatlands Retreat offers affordable 2 bedroom (sleeps 8) self-contained modern but quaint accommodation in historic Oatlands, situated approx. 1hr between Hobart and Launceston on the Heritage Highway.

The unit is within walking distance to all town attractions. Take a trip back in time. Oatlands boasts the largest collection of colonial sandstone buildings in a village environment in Australia, many of which are now businesses such as antique, candy, bakery, craft, hotels, restaurants, cafes and a new sumptuous pancake parlour. Visit the recently restored Callington Mill, the oldest wind driven working flour mill the Southern Hemisphere, where you can watch flour being milled and purchase flour and bread at The Companion Bakery who make bread to an age old process. The Heritage Hwy Tourism Ctr located next to the mill hosts guided tours of the mill and the entire town with its numerous historically significant buildings, all of which have a story to tell. They also have an entertaining ghost tour, prior bookings essential Another must see attraction is Cassaveen, world famous for woollen jumpers and factory tours.

The town is set on the shores of Lake Dulverton, currently stocked with trout, with 2 picnic areas and free BBQs. Get your fishing licence in Oatlands and throw a line in. Why not make Oatlands your base, being so central to most destinations and it has all the services of a large town, including a hospital and supermarket, while retaining its friendly small town atmosphere. Pets are welcome as high gates & fences enclose the property and a large kennel with bedding is also provided. Pet bond is payable.

Local Attractions:

Developed as a military base for managing convicts between Hobart & Launceston, much of Oatlands was convict built with many historically significant buildings, including the oldest wind driven working flour mill in the Southern Hemisphere. Do-it-yourself tours, guided tours and an entertaining Ghost Tour (please book ahead) are available at the Central Tasmanian Tourism Centre located in Oatlands. You can also visit Casaveen, world famous for woollen jumpers & factory tours. Oatlands is only 20min drive from the highland lakes, where in winter, snow can transform the alpine landscape or just 1hr drive through undulating countryside takes you to Orford on the pristine east coast. Why not get a fishing license in Oatlands and go trout fishing in Lake Dulverton or picnic at the free BBQ areas around the lake. There are also short and long walking tracks.
