1800's housestead beautifully restored and modern additions offering guests, comfortable and affordable Serviced Apartments or Self Contained accommodation options on a 36 acre property located in the magnificent Derwent Valley Southern Tasmania. 1 hour drive from Hobart and 10 minutes drive to Mount Field National Park. Travelling between Strahan and Hobart? Stay at Hamlet Downs for a well earned break before proceeding.
We offer the option of Room only, Bed and Breakfast or for the discerning traveller, the complete dinner, bed and breakfast package. Breakfasts range from continental or cooked to full meals with all the trimmings. For guests wanting Self Contained, we can provide full breakfast provisions if required. Dinners may be ordered on the night, and beer & wine are available.
We are the perfect stay for some fantastic attractions nearby including the South West Wilderness, Lake Pedder, The Styx Valley, The Tarns on Mt Field, New Norfolk and Lake Meadowbank.

Located 1 hours drive from Hobart Tasmania's Capital in the tiny hamlet of Fentonbury. Fentonbury is situated between the towns of Westerway and Ellendale about 25 minutes drive from the largest town in the Derwent Valley, New Norfolk. We are just 10 minutes drive from Mt Field National Park which features the famous Russell Falls. We have road signs located at Westerway; the Lyell Highway between the towns of Ouse and Hamilton and also at Gully Road Fentonbury. We are situated 500 Metres up Gully Road, first property on the right. Road Directions: A1 from Hobart to Granton, A10 to New Norfolk, B62 & B61 to Westerway, C608 to Fentonbury, 65 km from Hobart & about 1 hours drive.

Have a great walk on our 1.6 klm track around the creek and ponds where you may see wild birds and other wildlife. See our old hop sheds and pickers' huts.

Attractions within 10 minutes drive are: Mt Field National Park with the world famous Russell falls, the park for all seasons features many short and long walks displaying great diversity as well as winter snow fields and the amazing Tarn Shelf with its many exhilarating walks) Tyenna river (rainbow & brown trout fishing, canoeing and swimming) Something Wild wildlife sanctuary Old Oust Houses where once beer hops were processed Attractions within 30 minutes drive are: Maydena Adventure Hub. Enjoy guided tours, tricycle rides, pedal powered rail rider, 4 wheel drive tours and a trip to the Eagle's Eyrie atop an 1100 metre mountain Styx valley at Maydena (home of world's largest hardwood trees) The Florentine Valley features many different attractions like Mt Tim Shea the Growling Swallet and Wylds Craig Lake Meadowbank (on Derwent River for Atlantic salmon, and trout making it a fantastic and diverse fishery). The Salmon Ponds (at Plenty, an historic trout hatchery) New Norfolk (largest town in the Derwent valley) offers history, services, Jet boat rides and when available, historic train trips.
