About Northern tasmania and Launceston Accommodation

Launceston has some spectacular sights and we have loads of Launceston accommodation, if you feel like splashing out then have a look at one of our favourite Launceston Hotels:41 On York.

Cataract Gorge is a unique natural formation within a short walk or drive from central Launceston. Here, near vertical cliffs crowd the banks of the South Esk River as it enters the Tamar. The area around the gorge is a wildlife reserve and one of Launceston’s most popular tourist attractions.

Two walking tracks, one on either side of the gorge, lead from Kings Bridge up to First Basin, where you’ll find a concrete swimming pool, picnic grounds and a restaurant with sociable peacocks outside and trails leading up to the Cataract and Eagle Eyrie Lookouts. The gorge walk takes about 30 minutes.
